Plan Australia by state, not by a national scoreboard
Each state hub is a first-timer editorial — which attractions, how many days, what to drop. Not a thin doorway of links.
Best attractions depend on the state you land in. New South Wales is harbour and highlands. Victoria is a city plus a coast. Queensland is several climates. The Territory is two.
Questions
What travellers always ask
The one on your arrival ticket. NSW, Victoria and Queensland cover most first trips. Tasmania and the Territory need their own weeks.

NSW
New South Wales
Sydney harbour icons, a Blue Mountains day, and coastal walks — three to four nights is a first slice.

VIC
Victoria
Melbourne plus the Great Ocean Road. Phillip Island if you have a dusk free.

QLD
Queensland
Reef, Daintree, Whitsundays, K’gari, Gold Coast — pick a climate, do not collect all five.

WA
Western Australia
Perth, Margaret River, and a Coral Coast or southwest loop. Distances are the limiter.

SA
South Australia
Adelaide as a hinge for Kangaroo Island, the Barossa, and the Fleurieu.

TAS
Tasmania
Hobart, Freycinet, Cradle Mountain. Seven to ten days is the honest first loop.

NT
Northern Territory
Two climates: the Red Centre around Uluru, and Kakadu from Darwin. They are not a weekend apart.

ACT
Australian Capital Territory
Canberra’s galleries, Parliament, and a Tidbinbilla or Namadgi day.
